Benign hepatocellular tumors: Problem diagnoses and applications of new pathomolecular classifications

چکیده

Introduction Benign hepatocellular tumors gather 2 separate groups of lesions according to their pathogenesis. Such classification has been successfully achieved owing to molecular studies, especially assessing their biological behaviour. Therefore, one distinguishes polyclonal disorders that concern regenerative non-neoplastic processes, such as focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), and monoclonal lesions that are consistent with neoplastic tumors, including liver cell adenomas (1, 2). Both lesions are predominantly encountered in young women, usually in the context of oral contraception use.

Intramuscular Hibernoma of the Scapular Region Misdiagnosed on Cytology as a Malignant Lesion: A Report of a Rare Case

Hibernomas are extremely rare benign tumors of adipose tissue characterized by an admixture of brown fat cells with granular, multivacuolated cytoplasm and white fat cells. Hibernomas account for 1.6% of benign adipose tissue tumors and approximately 1.1% of all adipocytic tumors. Around 10% of these cases are intramuscular. It was initially described in the early 1900s as being composed of bro...

MicroRNA profiling in hepatocellular tumors is associated to clinical features and oncogene/tumor suppressor gene mutations

Molecular classifications defining new tumor subtypes has been recently refined using genetic and transcriptomic analyses of benign and malignant hepatocellular tumors. Here, we performed microRNA (miRNA) profiling in two series of fully annotated liver tumors to uncover associations between oncogene/tumors suppressors’ mutations, clinical and pathological features. Expression levels of 250 miR...

Argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1): A marker of unclassified hepatocellular adenoma and high bleeding risk.

Hepatocellular adenomas (HCAs) are rare benign tumors divided into three main subgroups defined by pathomolecular features, HNF1A (H-HCA), mutated β-catenin (b-HCA), and inflammatory (IHCA). In the case of unclassified HCAs (UHCAs), which are currently identified by default, a high risk of bleeding remains a clinical issue. The objective of this study was to explore UHCA proteome with the aim t...

Head and Neck Nerve Sheath Tumors: A 10-Year Evaluation in Iran

Background and Objective: Approximately 45% of benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) occur in head and neck regions. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are less common and only 8-15% of these tumors occur in head and neck region. In this study, we aimed at evaluating the demographic characteristics, pathologic findings, locations, main clinical presentations and family h...
